Bottom line: LoadUp is one of our favorite junk removal companies. It’s prices are generally about 20%–30% lower than the competition, largely because LoadUp charges by the item rather than how much space you take up in the truck. The pricing structure allows LoadUp to give you instant online quotes that are fully guaranteed. In addition to competitive prices, LoadUp also donates or recycles as many of your items as it can, and has diverted more than three million pounds of “junk” from local landfills.

How much does LoadUp junk removal cost?

LoadUp claims that its prices are typically 20%–30% cheaper than its competitors. To check this claim, we compared LoadUp’s fees with the average junk removal prices of other companies.

Rates vary by location, but we found that LoadUp consistently charges less than other companies (though it’s not always a full 20%–30% cheaper).

For example, it costs roughly $140 on average to get an old fridge taken off your hands, but LoadUp charges around $130 for this service. And while other companies typically charge at least $150 to haul away a sofa, LoadUp will do it for a mere $100.

LoadUp's quote process

We gathered the averages in the table above by requesting quotes in five different ZIP codes in different regions across the US.

This is where we typically say that our prices were gathered from online estimates, and that to get a more accurate price, you should do an in-home estimate. Most junk removal companies will adjust their prices at least a little after giving a quote online.

However, with LoadUp, we don’t actually need to do that.

Why? LoadUp guarantees its online quotes. All you need to do is enter your ZIP code and start adding items to your LoadUp inventory. Whatever price you’re quoted online is the price you’ll pay for your service.

Of course, if you enter your inventory incorrectly (i.e., you don’t disclose everything you want hauled away or you misjudge the size of a table you’re throwing out), your price will go up. Make sure you enter your information as accurately as possible.

It’s also important to mention that there are some ZIP codes that we couldn’t get online quotes for. LoadUp’s site doesn’t explain why online quotes aren’t available for some areas—it just tells you to give LoadUp a call instead.

Got a pile of random junk?

If you want to get rid of a pile of trash or demolition rubble that doesn’t fit into the categories on LoadUp’s inventory survey, the company still has you covered. The company lists a phone number on its online booking form beneath the order summary. Simply text that number a picture of your junk pile, and LoadUp will respond with a quote.

LoadUp’s service fees

You may have noticed that the price we listed for hauling away a sofa, a table, and a fridge together is much cheaper than the sum of hauling all three away individually. This is because LoadUp charges a service area fee (generally $50–$80) on every order.

These fees are the same whether you’re paying LoadUp to take one item or a dozen, so it’s much more cost-effective to book a LoadUp service if you’ve got several large items to throw away.

These fees cover taxes, transportation, and loading costs. Service fees ranged between $50 and $80 on our quotes, but they could very well be more (or less) in some areas.

LoadUp's features and services

LoadUp offers junk removal and product assembly services. While the company doesn’t have additional hourly labor options, LoadUp is a first-rate choice for its four basic services:

  1. Residential junk removal. LoadUp can haul away junk from anywhere in your home. It also offers dumpster rentals and curbside pick-up.
  2. Business junk removal. LoadUp offers its same eco-friendly junk removal services for businesses as well as homes.
  3. Product assembly. Not only can LoadUp disassemble items you need to get rid of, but it can also help you put together new products like furniture, exercise equipment, and bicycles.
  4. Full property clean outs. LoadUp specializes in cleaning out entire homes and estates. Rather than move out a few select items, it will empty out the whole place, making it an attractive option for property managers and house flippers.

Why we recommend LoadUp

Its full-service junk removal

What LoadUp lacks in additional services, it makes up for with a comprehensive junk removal program that’s designed for your convenience.

All of LoadUp’s drivers and junk loaders are background checked for your safety, and the list of items the company accepts is as extensive as any of its competitors. From furniture and appliances to rusty grills and old carpet, LoadUp’s competent and qualified loaders can take it all off your hands.

Since LoadUp was founded in 2014, you’d expect it to be more tech-savvy than an older company, and it doesn’t disappoint! LoadUp allows you to track the truck that comes to haul your junk away. This feature works similarly to Uber’s driver-tracking system, and it means you won’t be sitting around waiting and wondering when your truck will show up.

In case you can’t be there when the junk removal crew comes, LoadUp also offers curbside pickup. This service does require a little extra effort on your part since you’ll need to move all your junk to your curb or lawn, but it means you can run errands or go to work instead of staying home on your appointment day. When you get home, your junk will be gone.

Its affordable dumpster rental

Full-service junk removal isn’t always the best option if you’re doing a home renovation project and you need to clear a lot of trash or busted-up furniture over the course of a week or two. For situations like this, LoadUp offers dumpster rentals.

LoadUp’s dumpsters come in a variety of sizes tailored to fit your needs. There’s no weight limit for the dumpsters, and LoadUp makes sure not to put them on your lawn. Rates begin at $79—and the price includes both pick-up and eco-friendly waste disposal. LoadUp also has a dedicated support line you can call to change pick-up dates and order more dumpsters.

In a hurry?

If you need a dumpster and you need it NOW, LoadUp can usually fit you in on the same day as long as you complete your booking before noon. This service does depend on availability—so while it’s not guaranteed, it’s worth a try if you’re in a tight spot and you need a dumpster immediately.

Its recycling policies

LoadUp works hard to “recycle or donate as many items” as it hauls away,1 and the company claims that it has diverted over three million pounds of junk from landfills through its donation and recycling programs.

This means that if your junk (especially your furniture) is still in reasonable condition, you aren’t condemning it to rot in an overburdened landfill. Instead, LoadUp will try to take it to a recycling or donation facility to ensure it gets reused or repurposed.

LoadUp doesn’t have a lot of information about its recycling process online, so we reached out to a representative for more info.

While they couldn’t tell us what percentage of LoadUp’s junk gets recycled or donated, they said that a lot of the donated items go to women’s shelters, the Salvation Army, and veteran donation centers. Additionally, they told us that LoadUp is currently working to calculate exactly how much junk it donates and plans to update its website soon.

Lastly, they told us that your junk is more likely to be donated if there are donation facilities near your home.

Our recommendation

LoadUp is one of the best companies in the industry for affordable junk removal and dumpster rental, and customer reviews of the company are almost unanimously positive.

However, if you’re looking for a company that can do more than just junk removal jobs (i.e., help you move, demolish a wall, or stage your home), we recommend you go with one of our other junk removal picks.
